The Book of Stars (DVD)

Well received indie film about two orphaned sisters, one of whom, Mary, is a fifteen year old suffering from cystic fibrosis, while the other, Penny, is a twentysomething free spirit. Penny, an erstwhile poet, supports Mary and herself by prostituting herself and seems headed towards disaster until she starts getting letters from a convict (Sweeney) who has read her book of poetry and attracts the attention of a young man who lives around the corner. An intense story about life, death, alienation and the need for human contact, THE BOOK OF STARS is a beautifully filmed and ultimately uplifting meditation on these themes.

She was born in South Africa but made her first mark in rock by making to the top of the heap in The Netherlands.
This album was originally released in 2000 by the same label as Golden Earring (whom her band opened for on tour) and spawn five hit singles.
But Dilana was not to be stopped and her drive to make it in the music business lead her eventually to the U.S., where she settled in Houston, Texas.
